The Latin motto of SJC is " VIRTUTI ET SCIENTIAE" .
Over time we have seen various translations of it into English, the most recent being "Valour and Science"
By any reasonable appreciation of the Marist Education System ethos, that translation seems rather clunky.
So, we consulted a number of alumni who undertook Latin at the College as a year 10 to year 12 matriculation subject.
After a modicum of discussion, the group's agreed Latin to English translation was decided to be :-
VIRTUE AND KNOWLEDGE
That translation fits well within the ethos of the Marist Education System and the attributes our dedicated Marist Brother teachers inspired us to strive for and aspire to through their inculcation of us into the basic tenets of Marist belief characteristics.
